I come from a long background of playing different sports (ice hockey, soccer, rugby, mountain biking, bouldering). I now pretty much just focus on running, trying to hit single track trails as much as possible and doing some basic full body training (back squats, dead lifts, pull-ups, bench press, step ups with weights, rows). I have become more and more interested in bow hunting primarily because of my love of the wilderness; but also because of what I perceive is the satisfaction in being able to secure one’s own food. I have only had an opportunity to engage in some archery practice at an indoor range a few times, but I have loved the simplicity, repetitive practice and discipline of firing an arrow over and over. I’ve always had this sort of (probably very silly and childish) notion of being fit for the possibility of living off the land. And although I’ve participated in plenty of sports, my interest has always been more so in exploration and pushing my limits physically (so backpacking, hiking, trail running)
I’d like to somehow combine my physical interests of running, hiking, lifting and get into some form of bow hunting that involves movement rather than just sitting in a truck type hunting. As you can tell, I have no background in hunting, and very little in using a bow. I did however, read your post about running and hunting when beginning to do some research and was hoping you might be able to provide me with some further direction or advice. Oh and I live in Canada by the way. Thanks for your time,
